During my days at The Citadel it was no easy task when assigned to write creatively because classmate Pat Conroy always seemed to make other’s efforts appear sophomoric. It took another thirty years of living before I dared attempt to put pen to paper. I have now completed two novels and am beginning to outline a third. With the Putting Up project complete I am now looking for an agent or publisher, a project it appears is more monumental than the writing.

Valley of the Shadow
Set in Vietnam, this is a story of loss of idealism. The reader follows month by month the missions and challenges of a remarkable Green beret Captain Thomas Kidder and his A-Team. Together, these twelve men prove over and over to be totally capable regardless of assignment or threat of death. As their year begins to close it is this heroic mystic and super achiever status that sows the seed of the team’s destruction.

Green Flash
This is the final Thomas Kidder novel. Set in Charleston, South Carolina, the now fifty-five year old Kidder is told he is dying from chemicals he ingested while doing his job in Vietnam. Kidder wonders how he will spend his remaining two years of life. The answer is handed to him within hours of the doctor’s prognosis and he begins again, this time living unlike he has ever lived, with a life rich with love, purpose and commitment.
